This is a photo in which detail texture was the initial motivating factor: that of the wall caught part in and part out of shadow.
As Chris explains:-
"The raking light etching the varying textures of each stone struck me as being particularly fine. After trying several shots that carefully zeroed in on this or that few inches of wall - and various adjustments of apature to control the degree to which the background was thrown out of focus - I ended up grabbing this moment as a young girl happened to speed past on a bike. I didn't want her to highjack the image though so the wall remains the principal focus of attention while she (also part in and part out of shadow) provides a counterpoint - fuzzy with movement".
