Chris happened across this marine buoy on Greenland Dock in London's Surrey Quays. It is a good example of how a very simple - modest even - object can be transformed when using the camera's viewfinder to isolate it from it's surroundings.
It was in fact photographed from the quayside, not on the water, and Chris was careful to position the camera in such a way as to use the reflection of the only patch of blue sky and sunlit cloud that was visible amidst the general greyness that dominated the sky on the far side of the water. This, he felt, provided sufficient contrast to underline the vividly red body of the buoy that had stopped him in his tracks in the first place.
