This solitary tree is prominently seen - after a long and steep climb from the Weald - just off the main road over the Sussex South Downs at Bury Hill. Long dead, it remains standing guard as scudding clouds send shadows gliding across the landscape's undulations.
It was Chris' brother that suggested it as a subject as his family concider it to be "their tree" - being a landmark that heralds arrival at home. Interestingly though, almost every other family in the region have sinced announced that: "No, it's our tree, our children have always thought of it that way".
Then again, the farmer...
