I have a particular love of fog and (as in this case) mist. The location here is also a favourite spot: the cowslipped undulations of Rackham Banks, on the Sussex South Downs, near Amberley. This time a particularly early start was rewarded with a dawn that saw the whiteness cloaking the Weald below - and thereby giving emphasis to the simple curves of the Iron Age boundary banks and ditches that give the spot its name. Gradually a weak spring sun (just glimpsed here) finally began to loosen the mist's grip, revealing the closer fields way below. An hour later and the mist had gone but it's mysterious, etherial feel lingered. And lingers still.
