50 years ago Neal's Yard was a small, easily missed, dingy courtyard, tucked away down a couple of alleyways, a two minute walk from Covent Garden tube station. Come to think of it; it still is. ("Dingy" apart). Now though, add in the Neal’s Yard Bakery, a New Age bookshop and an "alternative medicines" emporium and it has become something of a trendy haven from the busy streets around about.
This image of it was made during a May afternoon, when the sun had crept high enough to penetrate to the Yard's cafe-tabled flagstones, illuminating a miscellany of people as they came and went. Often camera in hand...
