A beach with the tide out has a very particular atmosphere. There is something intrinsically new about it.
For one thing the wet sand is freshly wiped clean. All of the marks of yesterday - of a couple of hours ago - are erased. The detritus - the flotsam and jetsam - is arranged in a particular way that has never existed before.
So, marking this pristine sand with wet footprints seems both significant (it appearing so... "Dawn of Time") and, at the same time, totally insignificant for there is also the certain knowledge that very shortly the sea will return and re-wipe the entire expanse again.
For the billionth time.
