Whilst a distinctive feature of many of Chris' "SingleShot" images is the way he purposely tilts the camera to produce acutely angled converging lines, this image is an example of the opposite approach: taking particular care to keep the camera level and thereby ensuring that any vertical lines remain vertical and horizontal ones horizontal. We asked him about what determines which technique to employ:
"There is no hard-and-fast rule. It isn't a case of 'this image has a particular arrangement and therefore I must employ this or that approach'. Rather, its an intuitive thing. A minute later I might switch to the opposite tack. In this specific case I was impressed by the way I could snap the hard, grid-like straight lines of the shelter's window frames into the corner of the viewfinder. It just felt right. Then though, with that decision made, it was a matter of responding to events in front of the camera too: the movement of figures beyond the shelter, in the dazzling light reflected off the sea".
