That Nelson Mandella's arms are, in Ian Walters' sculpture of him in Parliament Square, stretching out in apparent embrace seems fitting. Such a simple human expression befits the man, for not only does his greeting seem directed to the passing people but also, more distantly, to the Palace of Westminster - and all of it's implications of democratic government.
In this representation of the figure Chris concentrated on those arms - and more especially the silhouetted, open left hand which appears to say all that is necessary.
