The first "Chinatown" in London was in the Limehouse area of the East End. It was only as the result of the Blitz - that devastated much of that area - that the Chinese community began to move to the area centered around Gerrard Street.
It was also about then that the indiginous population began to develop a taste for Chinese food as service men returned from the war in the Far East. Chinatown had found it's niche market .
